So What’s The Deal With Pre Orders?
(this is an extended version of the Instagram post I put up this morning - if you follow me on Instagram it’s still worth having a look at this one as it’s got more newsletter specific info!)
It feels surreal to say it but in less than a month you’ll be able to actually pre order SANOPD! There‘s so much work to be done between then and now that I still can’t quite believe it’s really happening but on May 1st 2025 you’ll be able to actually buy my book? Madness.
There’s a few different ways you can pre order and a few different things to know so let’s get straight into it.
First off: all pre orders will be eligible for digital incentives (think annotated playlists, extra content etc), to be announced over the next few weeks. All pre orders that I’ve been sent a receipt for (more info on this to come) will also be automatically entered into all three of the giveaways I have planned over the next few months.
ONLY pre orders directly from my website will be eligible for physical incentives (stickers, bookmarks etc) + will be the only place to buy signed copies.
A reminder that 10% of all my profits, including from pre orders, will be donated directly to mutual aid funds. Over the months of May and June these will be specifically directed towards the PCRF and funds that support trans youth in the U.K. and USA.
So where can you pre order?
Physical copies can be bought from my website + from all major retailers (Waterstones, Foyles, Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc). You can certainly ask your local indie if they can order you in and I’d love it if you did but that falls to their discretion - the minutiae of making independent books available for retail is really quite boring, we cannot get into it here but if you really want to know…idk text me?
Ebooks will exclusively be available through Kindle Unlimited.
Does it matter where you pre order from?
The short answer is…yes. The long answer is: it’s complicated.
Ordering through my website is the best way to ensure that I, Clare, actually get paid appropriately for my work as I get to retain far more of the profits through those sales than any other (I need you to know that I’m sweating right now with all the money talk). Ordering through my site doesn’t actually boost the book in any algorithms though and so the best way to make sure the book actually gets found by a wider audience is to purchase through a larger retailer. Either way, reviewing it on Goodreads, StoryGraph and Amazon will be instrumental in helping the book grow.
I’m honestly at a point where I’m just grateful and awed by any support at all. I have poured everything I have into this book and the fact that people are thinking about reading it at all is honestly just the coolest thing.
And because you’re my lovely newsletter pals and the newsletter is by far my favourite thing I get to do for promo; don’t forget that you all get early access to pre orders AND maybe even a little discount too.
All I’m saying is…keep an eye on your emails. There might be something exciting coming, just for you guys 👀👀👀
